IELTS SPEAKING PART 1: HELPING OTHERS [ANSWERS]

Talking about helping others in your IELTS Speaking test is not difficult at all. Give examples such as volunteering or donating some goods to charity organizations. Doing this can help you express better.

IELTS SPEAKING PART 1: Helping Others

Do you usually help people around you?

(Answer 1)

Yes, I do whenever I can. I think I’m an empathetic (showing an ability to understand and share the feelings of another) person as I easily feel sorry for those people who are in need. Well, I do help my friends when money is tight for them, I donate something in kind (given in goods or commodities instead of money) to homeless people, and, of course, I help my family or relatives in different ways.

(Answer 2)

Well, I’m helpful but it depends on the person who asks for help. I stay away (avoid)  from those people who take advantage of my kindness. I just can’t stomach (can’t tolerate) their toxicity. I only help those who genuinely need help.

How do you help people around you such as neighbors, family, and friends?

(Answer 1)

If anyone who is close to me needs some money, I lend them some or I just give them some money. Or, if one of my friends is struggling with personal issues, I’m always there to support them, and if they need my advice, I willingly give it to them. So, basically, my help is not limited to giving or lending money.

(Answer 2)

That all depends on the kind of help that they ask from me. I can give financial help but, of course, that’s limited as I don’t have much. Also, I can help them with their household chores or I can do some errands (short trips whether to take a message or to take or collect something) for them, especially if I’m not busy. And I can provide emotional support, especially when they go through (experience) something difficult in their lives.

Did your parents teach you about helping others?

(Answer 1)

Of course, they did! Both of my parents taught me the value of lending a hand. They always reminded me of the proverb, ‘No man is an island.’ Everyone needs someone’s help in order to live, however, my dad cautioned (warned) me to always draw the line so I wouldn’t be taken advantage of (be exploited).

(Answer 2)

Definitely! My parents did not fail in teaching me about helping other people. They told me that helping those who truly need help was gratifying (satisfying) and that I must do it whenever I could. Since then, I have provided help to anyone, as long as I have the means (the ways to do something) to provide such.

Did your parents help you a lot when you were young?

(Answer 1)

Yes, and I think that’s what parents need to do since children or teens cannot stand on their own two feet (to be independent) yet. My parents helped me in so many ways because they’re responsible parents. They provided me with the things that I needed and wanted during those days when I was just young and I’m grateful for that.

(Answer 2)

Absolutely! They helped me with my homework, especially mathematics. They helped me so much in my transition (a period of changing from one state or condition to another) from elementary to high school. As you know, that stage in life is complicated as everything is new and so many things change. I was diagnosed (to identify the nature of a problem by examination) with anxiety when I was a child so when I went to high school, they’re supportive of me and they did their very best to make my life comfortable.
