PART 1
STAYING UP LATE
ANSWERS
Do you often stay up late?
(Answer 1)
Well, not often, I only stay up late when there’s an important project that needs to be completed at a certain date. For instance, last month I had to usually hit the hay (go to bed) at 1 AM or 2 AM as I was working on a company project even when I was at home. It was tough but I was able to manage my situation.
(Answer 2)
Absolutely not! My doctor advised me not to stay up late as it would compromise (harm) my health. Well, I used to stay up late in the past because I spent a lot of time watching TV series or movies until I got terribly sick. Since then, I changed my unhealthy habits as I don’t want to die early.
What do you do when you stay up late?
(Answer 1)
There’s only one reason that I have to stay up late and that’s because of work. As I said, when I’m given an important project or task to complete, I make sure to give my all (to put a lot of effort into doing something), of course including my time as I want to finish the project, a few days before its deadline. So, if there are some revisions needed, I still have ample (enough) time to correct them.
(Answer 2)
I don’t stay up late recently, however, in the past, I did. So, I usually stayed up late for no important reason, at all. I just binge-watched (to watch multiple episodes) some TV series that I was engrossed (having all one’s attention) in and unfortunately, that took a toll on (to have a serious or bad effect) my health. That was an important life lesson I learned, anyway.
Did you stay up late when you were a child?
(Answer 1)
Hmmm…as far as I can remember, I didn’t because my parents were so strict in disciplining us, especially my father. He made us sleep at 9 in the evening all the time because it’s the right thing to do according to him. My siblings and I couldn’t go against (oppose) my father because he’s the boss in the family. I only started having some experiences of staying up late when I was a high school student.
(Answer 2)
Well, it’s not always but there were times that I stayed up late, especially on Friday or Saturday nights. There were some Friday or Saturday nights when I stayed awake until 12 midnight because I watched movies with my parents. They allowed me to sleep late since I didn’t need to go to school the next day. It was actually our family bonding (the quality time spent by family members with one another) and I had lovely memories of it.
How do you feel in the morning after you stay up late?
(Answer 1)
I feel groggy (dazed, weak, unsteady) and I’m sometimes bad-tempered (irritable). I think that’s pretty natural for some people who pull an all-nighter. But anyway, I do my best not to become toxic to my co-workers because I know that when we have an important project to finish, they also need to stay up late and probably they also feel what I feel the next day. So, I just need to be more understanding.
(Answer 2)
Well, in the past, when I was a champion (winner) of staying up late, I usually felt so exhausted in the morning when I woke up. I felt like I didn’t want to go to school and just wanted to spend more time in my bed. I was stupid at that time for staying up late for no important reason, at all. If I hadn’t become ill, I think I still would’ve continued that bad habit.
