COINS: IELTS SPEAKING

PART 1

TOPIC QUESTIONS &

ANSWERS

1.) Did you use coins as a child?

(Answer 1)

Yes, I did. I remember my mom gave me five $1 coins every weekend after I helped her do the house chores and I spent them on toys and candies whenever we went to a mall. I thanked my mom for that because I learned the value of money.

(Answer 2)

Definitely! I believe all children have that experience as they need to learn how to buy things. It’s common for parents to give their children some coins as a reward because that’s one good way for children to see the value of money.

2.) Do you use coins in your daily life?

(Answer 1)

Not at all. I don’t use cash anymore because I rely (depend) on credit cards or digital wallet services. They’re more convenient to use and I can make the most of my money since I get rewards from my purchases.

(Answer 2)

Well, I use some coins but not every single day of my life. I use them whenever I go to the supermarket, or whenever I have to pay for a parking fee. Actually, I have a coin box inside my car and I keep all my small change (money that is in the form of coins of low value) in there.

3.) Is it convenient to use coins?

(Answer 1)

I don’t think so that’s why I don’t pay in cash since I don’t always have coins with me, especially cents. Most of the time, when we buy something, there are always extra cents from the total cost of the things that we buy, and sometimes cashiers don’t have small change, and as a result, they can’t give us the exact change.

(Answer 2)

For me, yes, they’re easy to use and readily available. As I said, I have a coin box in my car where I keep all my coins. I know some people find it really bothersome to carry coins inside their pocket but they’re actually really helpful.

4.) Have you ever collected coins?

(Answer 1)

I did collect coins when I was a kid but I stopped doing it when I became an adult. I had some antique coins in the past because my grandpa gave me some of his collections. They’re various kinds of old pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.

(Answer 2)

Yes, I have different kinds of coins from different countries. I make sure to keep some whenever I travel abroad as mementos (souvenirs) of my trips. I keep them in a special box at home and I enjoy collecting them because each of them is unique.

5.) Do you often carry coins with you?

(Answer 1)

No, I don’t. As I said earlier, I only use credit cards and digital wallet services whenever I buy something. So, obviously, I don’t carry coins with me whenever I go out. Well, I don’t want my pocket to be filled with coins. They’re heavy and unhygienic (not clean).

(Answer 2)

Yes, I do. I have some in my pocket, especially when I go to some shops and buy something, and some in the coin box inside my car. I make sure that they’re readily available when I need them.
