PART 1
CELEBRITY
ANSWERS
What kind of famous people do you often see in the news?
(Answer 1)
Without a doubt (undoubtedly) celebrities or politicians, especially those who are involved in controversies. I’ve seen them a lot and I think that’s because they’re appealing to the general public. As you know, the more it appeals to the masses the more TV stations or news agencies promote them as that simply translates into revenue.
(Answer 2)
Normally, those celebrities who are widely talked about especially when they have to promote their movies or TV series. Also, I see some athletes, especially decorated (well-awarded) players, and some politicians who make blunders (stupid or careless mistakes).
Do you believe that the news about famous people in the media is true?
(Answer 1)
Well, some of them are true and some of them aren’t. I think media personalities like celebrities pay journalists to create a story about them so people start talking about them. It’s a marketing strategy that they make to create a buzz (to get people excited or to get people talking). This is common when they are going to launch their movie or series.
(Answer 2)
Who still believes in the media these days? I think the media can be manipulated (controlled) by powerful people. There’s no such thing as fair and balanced (unbiased) in the media. Therefore, I don’t believe the news about famous people. Well, it might have some truth in it but it isn’t 100% accurate.
Who is your favorite celebrity in your country?
(Answer 1)
Honestly, there’s none. I don’t idolize any celebrity because they’re just humans who happen to have a talent and become famous. For me, there’s nothing special about them. What I look up to (admire) are those people who contribute so much value to a society or community. A lot of celebrities don’t even care about giving back to people who idolize them.
(Answer 2)
I have lots of favorites but if I had to pick one, I think it should be Mr. X. Not only because he’s exceptional in acting but also because he has the kindest heart. When our city was hit by a severe (strong) typhoon, he was one of those people who helped us. He donated packages of food, clothes, and so many other things that we could use after the disaster. I believe he’s one of those actors who is thoughtful and kind.
Do you want to be a celebrity?
(Answer 1)
(Smiling) Never in my wildest dreams. There’s so much superficiality in being a celebrity. I can’t imagine life being scrutinized (examined or inspected closely or thoroughly) by the public eye and I don’t think I can bear (take) the fact that I have to please people so they like me. That’s what celebrities need to do so people will support them, otherwise, their careers will end shortly. I just can’t handle it.
(Answer 2)
Now that I’m an adult, a big no! However, when I was a teen, I dreamt of becoming a celebrity. My mom took me to different auditions and that was exhausting (very tiring) yet fun since I got to meet aspiring (desiring and working to achieve a particular goal) actors. It wasn’t until I turned eighteen that I realized that acting wasn’t really for me.
Do you read news about celebrities?
(Answer 1)
No, I don’t. Learning about the life of celebrities isn’t my cup of tea (not my interest). Even if I have lots of free time, I won’t bother knowing their respective lives. I’d rather spend my free time learning a new skill or improving myself.
(Answer 2)
Yes, I do but not often. I just read some news about my favorite actors or news about the upcoming movies and the stars of those movies. I’m interested in knowing the background of celebrities especially if the movies that they star in (to play in the movie) are blockbusters (movies that are commercially successful).
Have you ever met celebrities?
(Answer 1)
Yes, several times but those celebrities that I met aren’t that popular. When I was working in the capital city, I often hung out (to casually socialize with friends) with my friends at some bars that are usually visited by celebrities. I met some very nice celebrities but some are snobbish (elitist).
(Answer 2)
Well, I saw some celebrities during a music festival but did not literally meet them. I mean, I haven’t had an experience where I meet a celebrity and say hello or ask for an autograph. I think if I join some fan clubs, I’ll be able to meet and greet some celebrities but I don’t think I’ll do that since my life is busy.
