PART 1
SINGING
Do you often sing?
(Answer 1)
Well, I sing occasionally. I sing with my friends at a karaoke bar, especially when we celebrate birthdays or something very special. It’s fun singing with my friends because we can laugh at ourselves for singing badly.
(Answer 2)
No, I don’t. I rarely sing because I can’t carry a tune (unable to sing correctly). I only sing with my family because I feel comfortable with them. They don’t judge me for singing poorly.
Do you want to be a singer?
(Answer 1)
Well, in the past, I dreamt of becoming a professional singer. I took voice lessons to improve the quality of my voice and to understand some breathing techniques when singing. That was enjoyable, however, I realized that I didn’t want to sing and make a living out of it but I wanted to sing simply because it’s a hobby.
(Answer 2)
No, I don’t want to be a singer. I know myself very well — I just don’t have a good singing voice, at all. How I wish I had the talent. As I said, I only sing with my family because they’re the only people I feel comfortable with. I dunno I may become a singer in the next life (in the life that may exist after death).
What kinds of music or songs do you like to sing?
(Answer 1)
I can sing different music genres such as pop music, R&B, jazz, country, and many more. However, I’m more into singing pop songs simply because most of them are easy to sing, and the lyrics, especially my favorite pop songs resonate (to produce a positive feeling, emotional response, or opinion) with me.
(Answer 2)
As I was born in the mid-90s, I sing songs that were once popular in that era. I enjoy singing songs from boy bands or those songs popularized by the legends Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and the like.
Is it difficult to sing well?
(Answer 1)
Maybe for some, it’s difficult but personally, I don’t think so because as I said I had some voice lessons in the past that taught me how to properly sing so I could sing better and protect my vocal cords. Once people know those important singing techniques, they will no longer have any difficulty in singing.
(Answer 2)
As a person who is tone-deaf (cannot sing in tune), yes, it is incredibly difficult to sing well. I think singing well is a talent. It is innate. I mean, there are some people who are like me who can’t sing well and they undergo some training but their singing voice is not as good as those who are born with the gift of singing voice.
Have you ever learned how to sing?
(Answer 1)
Well, I did learn when I was a child. I attended some voice lessons, however, I wasn’t serious at that time. I was just enrolled by my mom so I could do something worthwhile (productive, valuable) every summer. Although I learned some techniques on how to sing, my singing voice didn’t dramatically improve. I guess I’m not meant to be a good singer.
(Answer 2)
Yes, but it wasn’t a professional voice lesson. I learned how to sing in our music class in elementary and high school since singing was part of our music class. It was enjoyable, however, my voice didn’t transform (change) into the voice of an angel. I’ve remained out of tune (not having the correct pitch or intonation) until this day.
Who do you want to sing for?
(Answer 1)
I love singing to my nieces and nephews because they’re fun to be with and at the same time they enjoy singing. So, every time I pay a visit to them, we watch some children’s shows or Disney movies and we sing all together. It’s actually my way of bonding (a formation of close relationships) with them since I don’t often see them since my work schedule is hectic (restless).
(Answer 2)
(Smiling) I sing for myself. I don’t want to sing for someone or with someone else as I know that I can’t carry a tune (unable to sing a melody). I don’t want my singing voice to annoy others if I shamelessly sing in front of other people. My singing voice is just monotone (flat).
Do you think singing can bring happiness to people?
(Answer 1)
Yes, and that’s irrefutable (impossible to deny)! It has been proven that singing can relieve one’s stress or worries and it can also produce happy hormones. Actually, there are many studies conducted about how singing improves the well-being (the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy) of a person and the results are incredibly (to a great extent) positive.
(Answer 2)
Yes, I believe so because that is one of the best ways to change one’s mood from being sad to feeling happy. However, if the person doesn’t have a good voice or he has an irritating (annoying) singing voice, I think the people who are listening to him won’t be happy but annoyed. (Smiling) And I don’t want people to feel that way so I avoid singing publicly.
Do you like singing?
(Answer 1)
Yes, I do, but sad to say, I don’t have a good singing voice. I think I’m tone-deaf (unable to distinguish differences in pitch in musical sounds ), but that doesn’t stop me from loving singing because singing is my way of relieving my stress. When I sing, I forget about my worries.
(Answer 2)
Definitely not! Although I love listening to music and I have a wide interest in music genres, sadly I can’t carry a tune (to be able to sing the correct musical sounds of a tune). I just hate my singing voice. How I wish I was born with an extraordinary singing voice.
When do you sing?
(Answer 1)
Like I said earlier, I sing when there are special occasions. My friends and I usually spend time at karaoke when one of us celebrates something special like a birthday. That’s when I usually sing my heart out (to sing one’s heart out).
(Answer 2)
I don’t sing at all. I don’t have the confidence to sing, as I said, I really hate my singing voice so I’m doing myself a favor not to sing at all. All of my friends know that, and they have already given up (stop making an effort ) on encouraging me to sing and I’m happy about that.
Will you take singing lessons in the future?
(Answer 1)
Honestly, I’m currently taking voice lessons these days. It’s fun as I get to understand some techniques in singing like proper breathing, having the correct posture, warming up my voice before singing, and things like that. So far, I’ve been doing well and I’m so proud of the improvements I have made recently. I think in no time, I’ll be able to sing pleasantly.
(Answer 2)
No, never in my wildest dreams to take singing lessons. It’s the last thing I want (something you certainly do not want) to do. I may sound pessimistic to you but there’s no point in taking voice lessons as it won’t help develop my career. I’d rather spend money on taking lessons that are related to my profession.
Did you enjoy singing when you were younger?
(Answer 1)
I believe so, although I can’t recall (remember) some memories, I do believe I did enjoy it. Well, anyway, I think it’s normal for kids to love singing. As we know, parents and teachers sing a lot to make their children or students feel happy. It’s also one of the best ways for children to learn ABCs and numbers.
(Answer 2)
Yes, I remember I had this English teacher who always started the class with a song. We needed to sing altogether and dance at the same time (simultaneously ). It was really enjoyable, and it made us energetic. I think it was her way to make us motivated to study well in her class.
