TEAMWORK: IELTS SPEAKING PART 1
Topic Questions And Answers
1. Do you like teamwork?
(Answer 1)
Yes, who doesn’t like it? I love working with others as that makes the job lighter. Besides, I always believe in the idea of two heads are better than one (it’s easier for two people to solve a problem than being alone solving it).
(Answer 2)
That really depends on the team members that I work with. I despise (hate) those workers who don’t contribute value to the team and later on, get credit for the completed task. In that case, I’d rather work on my own. However, if all team members bring value, without a doubt, I enjoy being a team player (someone who is good at working closely with others).
2. What do you dislike about teamwork?
(Answer 1)
I hate it when the task is not fairly and properly designated (to choose someone to do a particular job) as that always results in problems. I believe team leaders must know the skills and weaknesses of their team members so they can assign respective tasks to the right person. In that way, work efficiency is assured (guaranteed; secured).
(Answer 2)
As I mentioned earlier, I abhor (regard with disgust and hatred) teammates who get the credit for the completed task even though they don’t add value to the task. I always believe that one should make an effort to make a valuable contribution to a team because that’s basically the purpose of teamwork.
(Answer 1)
I learned a lot of things! I learned how to communicate more effectively so everyone can reach a better understanding of my ideas, I learned how to listen attentively, I learned how to give constructive feedback, and more importantly, I learned that unity in a team is an integral (essential) part of achieving success.
(Answer 2)
Well, there are so many things that I learned from working in a team, however, one major lesson that I learned is that having an effective team leader is crucial (key; pivotal) to the success of a team. If a team leader is weak, the foundation of a team gets weaker, and as a result, failure is inevitable (unavoidable).

4. Have you teamed up with someone else before?
(Answer 1)
Yes, many times, at work and at school. I remember when I was a university student, I was teamed up with a very smart student in a science experiment, and I was so intimidated (scared; frightened) by him because I was just an average student. I couldn’t keep up with (progress at the same rate as someone) his intellectual ability, however, he’s so nice to me as he helped me understand some things that I didn’t understand during our experiment.
(Answer 2)
Of course, for the past ten years of working, I’ve teamed up with different kinds of workers – some are brilliant, some are passive (allowing what happens or what others do without active response or resistance), some are indifferent (lack of interest or enthusiasm), and some are condescending (showing a feeling of superiority). The latter (the last mentioned) is the hardest one to work with because they make you drain your energy and make you feel unworthy (not deserving effort, attention, respect).
